If you have ever had to clean out your chimney, then you know that it can be an unpleasant experience. The exhaust from a typical chimney can be foul, acrid, or just smell really bad. Chimneys are not only unpleasant to look at, but they can be dangerous as well. The main reason why chimneys need to be cleaned is soot, carbon monoxide, flue gas, and other hazardous gasses can build up inside the chimney and cause damage to your home, health, or even your life.
There are a lot of different chimneys available on the market today. They are made of metal, clay, masonry or wood and there are some that are freestanding. A chimney is usually an architectural venting structure designed of clay, masonry or metal that separates harmful smoke or exhaust gases from human living quarters from the chimney.
Unfortunately, chimneys can get clogged by animal waste and bird droppings. Grime and tree leaves will also attract bees, squirrels and other rodents who will chirp, squeak and chew their way into your chimney. In addition, leaves and branches will fall off trees and mix with the smoke from your burning fireplaces and stoves will also cause smoke to fill up your chimney from time to time. If you keep your chimney clean by scrubbing it down every so often, you should be able to keep most of these things out of your chimney.
